• So when I log into my WP dashboard and click Pages on the left, it shows me the pages on my website. Because I have Yoast’s plug in, each page is given a light (green for good SEO, and red for Bad). There are other colours as well for OK or Poor.

So my Blog page is getting a bad (red) SEO score from Yoast.

Now the thing is when I want to add a Blog post, I go to Dashboard > Posts > Add new

When I view the blog from Pages, there is absolutely no content. No images, nothing. So presumably this means my blog, which I think is pretty good and which should (in theory) be helping my site to get better SEO, its actually acting like an anchor bringing down my SEO.

Is this correct or incorrect, and if it is true what can I do to remedy the situation?

Thanks for your help WordPress experts.

  • You’re incorrect. The Blog page is using a template to display the posts. What search engines see are the content (posts) on the Blog page, not what is inside that page’s editor.

What you did wrong is displaying full posts on the Blog page. What is the point of users looking single posts when they can see everything on the Blog page? Try to use excerpt.

Okay, so how do I change it?

Sorry, I am new to WP. I do know a bit about html because I am somewhat familiar with vBulletin.

First, you should edit the Blog page and see which template is it using. Hopefully it’s default. If it’s using the default template, then you need to edit index.php (Using FTP or Editor under Appearance) and replace <?php the_content(); ?> with <?php the_excerpt(); ?>
