    Hi,

I am working of a WordPress site to optimize it, before that I wanted to take one good automated backup.
After installation the plugin is showing the message in red box as: “The ‘Backup Now’ button is disabled as your backup directory is not writable (go to the ‘Settings’ tab and find the relevant option).”
As per instructions about going to Settings tab and clicking on links won’t help anyhow. While trying to enable write permission in wp-content folder I don’t find ‘updraft’ folder.

Will it work if I attempt to create that folder manually? Plugin will able to generate backup after this?

    Please help with this.

    Hi,

Yes, you can definitely create the “updraft” folder manually. Make sure to have the correct file permission for the folder. The following article on Smashing Magazine is a good guide as to the file permissions/ownerships that are required for WordPress: https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2014/05/proper-wordpress-filesystem-permissions-ownerships/#file-and-folder-ownership-for-wordpress

    Thanks,
    Bryle

    Hey Bryle,

Thanks for the article on Smashing Magazine, I just wanted to make sure that creating a folder manually will not harm anything else? The site I am working is purely used for blogs and is live.

Can I be sure about creating a folder or changing the permissions will not lead to any unwanted results?
    Please guide through this

    Thanks,
    Prachi

    Hi Prachi,

    Sorry for the delay.

It should not be an issue as the guide should be what the file permissions should be for files and folders.

    Thanks,
    Bryle

hi, just put an underline before the backupfolder (in my case ai1wm-backups to _ai1wm-backups), updraft creates automatic a new folder with the right permission (in my case it was a owner/group permission thing)

    Hi
Sorry but I followed the link you provided and honestly, it is far beyond my technical understanding!!

Can you help me do this less technically? I can contact easyWP to access my FTP I believe?
