• For some reason, my WP wouldn’t let me select a template for a page. I was troubleshooting, making sure I had proper commenting on the template, etc.

Then I noticed an error on the bottom of the admin page about tdav_css, and saw I had some code in my functions.php that was causing it (code to add custom buttons to the TinyMCE editor). I removed that code, but still couldn’t get the template selector to show.

I read that maybe I had to reactivate my temple, so I went to Appearance > Templates and it gave the error “The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.” and switched the site to TwentyTen with my custom theme no longer showing in Admin.

How can I troubleshoot such a generic error? PLEASE HELP!

ETA: If I delete the stylesheet, it then says the theme is there, but missing the stylesheet. When I put the stylesheet back (which I have not edited at all today), the admin panel doesn’t mention it any more.

That’s a bad failure mode. I’m just getting started at WP, and I can’t get a new child folder under ‘themes’ to be recognized at all. (The new folder contains only a styles.css containing the standard comments block, all other *.php files emptyi.) No error message from WP at all. Horrible failure modes. No responses to my questions on this forum. Very disappointed in the package so far.

My issue was that I had accidentally deleted my index.php. Once I put it back, it was fine. So my guess is that for you, you need to get some of the basic files in that folder before it will be recognized, like at least index.php and potentially others. ??

I have used WP for years and years on probably 20 sites and it’s actually quite fabulous, once you get to know it. ??
