• Hi, is there a way to have the TG Widgets, like the slider, featured posts, highlighted posts, etc. to use the first image in blog posts instead of the featured images designated in the posts?

The featured images I have in all my posts don’t fit the areas of the TG widget well but the first images would. I don’t want to have to go through 100 posts and change each featured image. If there is some code or something that can make the TG widgets use the first image from the posts then that would be a great help.

I am currently not using the TG widgets on my home page because of this.

    Thanks

  • Hi @nicheapex,

    Thanks for reaching us,

While checking your query above, it seems you have mentioned to remove the feature image from every post and instead of the featured image, you want to display the first image provided by the post? Is it so?

Kindly elaborate a little more and I will be back.

Hi Barsha, thank you for getting back to me.

I have almost 100 posts and they all have featured images that do not fit well in the Colormag theme I switched to.

I want the TG widgets, like the slider / featured posts / highlighted posts to use the first image that is in the posts themselves and not use the featured images that are set in the original posts.

I was using the old theme for many years but it is not mobile friendly like the colormag theme is and I really like the colormag theme so I want to stay with it. I just wanted to see if there was any css code or something that I can do to have the TG widgets use the first image in the posts as the image that they display on the widgetized front page I want to use.

This way I don’t have to go back and make new images for the featured image in all 100 posts.

The newsticker code you helped me out with on another post here was absolutely perfect and I was hoping there was some kind of easy fix to have the TG widgets use the first image in the posts instead of the featured images it now uses.

Each of my images was made custom by me and took a lot of time so I don’t want to have to remake 100 featured images to make them fit the TG widget size need.

All my posts have first images that are the same size and fit the TG widgets perfectly so if I can have them use the first images in the posts then that would solve a big problem for me.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    Hi @nicheapex,

    Thanks for reaching us,

Currenlty the option for using the theme post first image instead of the featured images is not available with the theme. If you can code on your own, it can be achieved via the child theme. For creating the child theme, please check the guideline here: https://themegrill.com/blog/tutorial-creating-wordpress-child-theme/

Let me know of anything confusion and I will be back.

Thanks Barsha, I already know how to code a child theme but just don’t know the code that I would need to use the first image instead of the featured image.

I didn’t know if there was some css code I could use to achieve this. One of the main reason I chose to replace my previous theme with the Colormag theme was to use the TG widgets, so if I can’t use those for my needs then that eliminates one of the main reasons to use the theme.

Making 100 new featured images for all my posts is going to be a big task and I really don’t want to have to do that.

    Hi @nicheapex,

    Thanks for getting back,

Since the feature you have request cannot be achieved by a simple CSS code, you’ll need to either use the child theme or look for some third-party plugins on your end.

If you have any issues while using the child theme, you can go for some third-party plugins.

    Regards
