    Hi everybody,
I know that maybe this is not a backwpup related issue, but I would like to ask you if anybody has any idea about that.

Today I had to restore the entire DB from a backup coming from a couple days ago. I loaded it via phpmyadmin and the restore was fast and successful.

The only issue I had was that some of the widgets I had on my wordpress sidebar were disappeared, more specifically only the “text” widgets were lost.

Searching into the .sql file I could see that there is a line where all these widgets are saved, and actually I could copy-paste these strings and deleting the escape characters to rebuild the widgets from scratch, so the data is present, but at the restore time the text widgets were not recreated.

I tried restoring twice with the same result.

I did a few searches on google and only found somebody saying that’s better to export and import widgets with a specific plugin, but not much more about this issue.

Does anybody experience this too? Could it be a wordpress issue or may the widget part be exported by backwpup with some errors and partially skipped at restore time?

    thanks,
    best regards.

    Hi @fabiomasarin
I’m not facing this kind of problem before, but with a quick Google search, I can find the following solutions:
    https://sangkrit.net/easily-recover-lost-text-widgets-in-wordpress/
    https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/9076/why-is-my-database-import-losing-text-widget-data
Could you please give it a try?
    Thanks!

    hi,
yes the first link is one of the few I had already seen, but it’s talking aobut a plugin that’s no more mantained and with only “not working” reviews in the official page, not even accessible by the wordpress plugin search page. I looked at the “inactive widgets” section on my website but it’s empty, no trace of the missing widgets.

the second if I’m not wrong is talking about recovering after manually editing the .sql file, but I didn’t touch the DB file at all, I just loaded it, that’s why I don’t understand why text widgets are gone (even if their content is still shown in the db file), so there’s probably something weird going on while backupping or restoring.

    thanks,
    regards

Not sure but could you try to deactivate then reactive the current theme?
