I placed Text Widget – Arbitrary text or HTML in the Sidebar 1 section to the right. It didn’t display when clicking the down arrow. Then I discovered this removed the visual right sidebar of my blog with Archives, Categories, Links, and Meta. At the bottom of the page there were several errors of which one was

Warning: fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /home/vipps/public_html/disability/wp-content/plugins/wp-shortstat.php on line 137

I removed Text Widget from the Sidebar one and visual right sidebar of my blog returned without any errors.

The Current Theme of my blog is WordPress Default.

The Text Widget is an option for this theme.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I only have to plugins Akismet and WP-ShortStat. I had done a fresh download and upgrade to version 3.71.

Personally I do not use the Text widget, due to coding limitations.

Trying using the enhanced text widget.

But also, what was the code that you tried entering into the text widget?

I hadn’t entered any code because it wasn’t working. I did a search and others are having problems of moving the Text Widget – Arbitrary text or HTML in the Sidebar 1 section to the right. It didn’t display when clicking the down arrow. I will consider trying the enhanced text widget.

I installed the Enhanced text widget on my wordpress test blog. It appears in the sidebar. I thought the widget was to allow the user to include HTML and javascript when posting within the Editor.
