• On several pages on our custom www.remarpro.com site, text is showing up in strange places. TinyPass plugin support first brought it to my attention: “There’s something breaking in your WordPress install that I’m not able to troubleshoot … Even portions of the page are showing up outside of the edit page functionality.”

I created a screenshot of the problem on one of the pages, FAQ, but am not quite sure how to attach it. The problem only shows up in the edit screen, not on the site. Oh, wait. OK. I created a new page with the screenshot on it (https://www.mygoforthegreen.com/wordpress-support-help/). It’s not pretty, but you can see the issue.

Weird, eh? Any ideas? Sure hope so!

  • Have you deactivated all plugins and switched to the default theme to see what may be causing this?

Oh. No, I haven’t. Happy to try if it will help, however.

Question: What would the “default theme” be? The guy who created our site in WordPress (moving it from an HTML site) didn’t use a WordPress theme. He, unfortunately, is no longer available and I am sure new to this!

As a P.S., if I copy all the code onto a fresh page, it solves the issue. The only reason I haven’t just done that to work around the problem is that I don’t know how to re create existing “sub titles” since the new pages I create don’t have the “title tab” which the flawed pages do (eg. FAQ sub-title is “Questions & Answers About Go For The Green Selling Challenge”.

default = twentythirteen (or another twenty-something) theme.

Thank you. One further question since I’m nervous about switching themes: would my workaround work – if sub-title issue could be solved?

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Do you want to locate and, hopefully, fix the problem on your site? If “yes”, then please help us to help you and carry out the changes that we suggest.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

Gulp. Okay, I know you’re right, esmi, and I am trying to learn.

Clarification: Do I do the steps sequentially? I mean, deactivate one plug in at a time; check; reactivate; go to next; repeat; then, if plugins are not the issue, switch to a default theme?

Do I do anything with plugins when I switch or are they just part of my current custom theme?

I will start with 1 plugin and check back in before proceeding. I do want to fix this and do appreciate the willing help – I’m just nervous.

deactivate one plug in at a time

No. Deactivate all plugins. If that solves the problem then turn them back on one-at-a-time.

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

Thanks, esmi. I’d begun with one at a time before I saw your advice. By the 5th plugin … AHA! Issue disappeared when Page.ly MultiEdit Version 0.9.8.3 was de-activated!

Should I try all of them now and then re-activate just that one to be sure?

If site works fine without Page.ly, do I just leave it de-activated?

Yes. In fact, delete the plugin.

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

Oh,yikes. Just checked and site was virtually gone without that plugin. No content; just titles so guess it’s critical.

Hmm. So simple isn’t going to do it. Any thoughts on next step?

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

esmi, I posted first then read yours – sorry. I’ll go in and de-activate them all and re-activate one at a time as you first suggested. Think I’d better wait until after business hours as this site is our business!

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

Some additional info that might (?) be relevant: this issue occurs only on the final 3 of our 7 pages: Buy, Pro Shop and FAQ. The first 4 pages don’t have the text showing up there at all.

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

Couldn’t wait any longer … all plugins deactivated, checked site, and only deactivating that critical-to-site-function page.ly one corrected the issue. Phooey!

    Thread Starter IreneLinda

    (@irenelinda)

I’ve just emailed Pagely, the plugin developers, to see if they can help with this. Will post back when I hear from them. It is must be some kind of plugin conflict if deactivating it solves the problem (but can’t be done since it’s critical to the site’s appearance!).
