• Hi

I love Chaplin and how well it is built! I’m trying do create a site with a blog with it. What I need is the ability to alter the text-color on top of feature-images (menu, headline, excerpt, scroll-down-link & icon) on a per post basis.

The site will have a lot of blog posts, partially managed by editors without knowledge of image editing or coding. They should be able to set the text-color to something with a good contrast to the feature image.

Can you please assist me in embedding this feature?

    Thanks!
    Dev.

    Hi @devilsinkpot,

I’m glad you like it! That would be a pretty extensive feature to add. You would need to add a color meta setting on each post, and then implement a solution similar to the one in the chaplin_get_customizer_css function for outputting the color CSS with the appropriate targeting.

There’s not an easy way to integrate custom targets into that function currently, so you would basically have to replicate and modify the whole function in a child theme right now, but I’m planning on redoing it in version 2.0 (hopefully coming sometime in the next two weeks) with a structure that has better support for custom targeting.

    Dear Anders,

Thanks for your reply! I think that by being minimalistic, Chaplin makes a very versatile theme. Less is often more. But while I appreciate the reduced and very well crafted approach, I think that my question is the one “weak spot” of the theme.

Having to settle with one general style of overlay and text-colors, a user either has to “hack around” this limiting factor by doing the overlay directly in the header-images, or settle with a rather monotone style of heading.

The optimum approach to me would be to have a general standard set in customiser and the possibility to overwrite this on a post/page basis if needed. This would include:
    – text-color for the header-section (including the menu)
    – logo image (to have it transparent/inverted/different as needed)
    – the overlay style/color/alpha-transperency

Maybe you can give this a thought for future releases. For the time being, I will change the text-color with ACF. While I don’t like such a bulky plugin fur such a small purpose, it is the easiest way right now to have the other editors do it.

And because it is almost the 24th …

    Have a good Xmas time!
    Dev.
