Text changes not preserved between editor and Tailor

    I was initially very excited about Tailor because if felt to me that for the first time I was seeing a page builder doing the right thing – not breaking the WordPress editor editing abilities. I have since got really frustrated because that doesn’t seem to be case, as any text changes done within the editor are lost as soon as we open Tailor editor, making it impossible to use both in tandem.

    This is not exactly a bug report, closer to a review although I really would like to know if this is something that might change in the future.

    Hope this doesn’t sound too harsh, I really loved the direction the plugin has taken but this “little” detail really breaks it for me.

    Not at all. I agree that that would be a great feature!

    The challenge is that layout information is separate to the content itself. Tailor stores information about the layout separately to avoid cluttering up the content. Storing layout information within the content (e.g., data attributes within the content HTML) is not only messy, but users would have the ability to edit that too which would have wide-reaching effects.

    Each builder approaches this challenge differently. Some lock down the editor entirely and prevent the editing of content while the builder is “active” on that page. The benefit of Tailor, as things stand, is that you can edit the content and those changes will appear on the page itself because the saved content IS the content; it’s just went you reenter Tailor that the last known layout is used.

    I will spend some time thinking about whether this problem is solvable in the way that you desire. I don’t suppose you have any thoughts on how that problem could be overcome do you, as I would be happy to implement a solution if we can agree on a realistic approach..?

    Hi Luis,

    Given that this is an enhancement as opposed to a bug, I’ll close this issue out but keep it noted down as a possible future enhancement to Tailor. There’d be a fair amount of work involved to achieve it, as well as some tradeoffs, but I will certainly look into it.
