Testimonials switched to blog format

Hi modulemaster,

Firstly, if you remove the plugin you won’t lose your data. The testimonial posts will remain in your database and will only be hidden if you de-activate Clean Testimonials.

Secondly, Clean Testimonials does not use a custom database table to store the testimonials. They are a WordPress custom post type and are therefore stored in wp_posts.

Thirdly, the layout which is appearing on the Brakes category page is not being rendered by a Clean Testimonials shortcode. It looks like the page is being rendered by a category template. So, this is a theme issue :).

Here’s the reply I got from my theme author…

The reason that’s happening is because the category display (or archive) is grabbing Salient’s default blog template. You could sort this by adding a new template into the theme that the plugin can use instead. It would need to be named taxonomy.php and have the contents of whatever layout file inside of the plugin that it normally uses the main display. If you get in touch with the plugin author again they should be able to point you to that file ??

To reiterate, sorry, but this is not a plugin issue. The plugin file he is referring to simply does not exist. It’s entirely up to your active theme to display content correctly.

He/she should do this for you if you’ve paid them for a theme ??

He/she is right though, if you create a taxonomy.php template you can customize how you want the output to look.

Sorry, I’m just an amateur developer, but wouldn’t the hooks and functions in this file, taxonomy.php be specific to Clean Testimonial code?

If your plugin is intended to work with any theme, shouldn’t it include this template file?

What’s weird is that the layout worked initially, then the next day I looked at it, it was all fracked up.

In fact, I just removed and reinstalled the plugin, and the layout is correct. I’ll let you know if it reverts back.

Ah, sounds like it was a re-write rules issue. If it happens again, flush your rewrite rules by just saving your permalink structure again.

And no, taxonomy.php has nothing to do with Clean Testimonials code specifically ??

I went to Settings > Permalinks Settings and clicked “Save Changes”. No change to the Clean Testimonials layout.

I should’ve mentioned, the layout reverted back to the blog format… all by itself. When this happens, the shortcode for submitting a testimonial no longer works (404 error).

Sorry mate, to re-iterate, this is a theme issue and there’s literally nothing we can do from our end, unfortunately ??

You’ll need to have your web developer take a look for you.

OK, thanks for your help. I’m now stuck because neither the theme or plugin author thinks the issue is theirs.

I noticed Easy Testimonials claims to work with any theme, so me thinks I’ll give them a try.
