• I am running WordPress on Sandstorm.io so it’s an older version. Sandstorm is (for lack of a better word) the hosting provider, running on its own server within our domain. The website is to be used strictly internally and as such its URL is an internal address, so the site’s only connection to the Internet is through my user session. (as far as I understand it)

I’ve been having this issue where the WP search widget opens a new tab and searches Google for my search term, instead of my website. There’s nothing that should be causing this behavior as everything on my website was 100% vanilla until I installed Search Everything–no plugins, using Twenty Twelve theme with no modifications. The URL on the search tab it opens follows google.com/search?sitesearch=INTERNAL_URL&q=STRING. The site does not use posts, it uses pages.

I installed Search Everything to see if I could use it as a workaround. Still got the same problem, until I tried Test Search w/in the config settings–it works perfectly! Finally, for the first time, I saw the search widget function as it should and return the page with my search term on it.

So I guess my question is, what is different about how Test Search functions than the normal widget, and how can I make that behavior apply all the time?

  • Did you ever get an answer on this? I’m having the exact same thing happen. No instructions.

Never really figured it out, but when I tried it from a different computer and a different browser other than Chrome, the search function worked correctly.

Okay, thanks for the response. I ended up using a different plugin..could never get this one working.

    Hi @dkirmis and @znieting,

The search everything plugin was designed to search your website with no external search properties. If you’re experiencing an external search engine, it might be a browser extension/widget that is overriding this functionality. If you try it out on a different browser, or if you’re in chrome, in incognito mode, or with all browser extensions disabled does it still happen?

    Best,
