When you test with webpagetest.org, first of all, you need to be careful to set it so that the requests are made from an actual mobile device, one with a small screen.

Then, in the Content breakdown tab, you will see that the total images download size should be a lot smaller in comparison to a request from a desktop device. For instance here are the results from a desktop device test https://www.webpagetest.org/result/180310_Y9_1b98c960f1a85f724b469d2db144b559/1/breakdown/ and the results for the same url from a mobile device https://www.webpagetest.org/result/180310_ZJ_90a64957e544a6371b2f9610f7f9e2a4/1/breakdown/.

Also, you can check out the downloaded size for each particular image one by one in the Details tab.
