• hi,

I’m wondering if there are some ‘best practices’ to do test orders without this having influence on stock, creating user accounts, doing real payments, sending emails to the shop owner etc. I’m using Mollie as payment provider, but if I need to test certain things within my shop, I have to change Mollie to the test mode, so all production orders will also use the test mode of Mollie then. So the payment provider is one thing, but it would be great if Woocommerce would offer a kind of test mode within the production shop so all functionalities can be tested, while the shop still continuous in production mode.

Of course I can make a clone of the production shop, change Mollie to test mode, change the shop owners email etc and then run some tests, but it is a bit devious.

It would really be helpful to hear from other shop owners/ builders how they handle this kind of situations. It would also be really helpful if the Woocommerce builders could respond too if they have plans to build such kind of functionality. Maybe I have missed a plugin that can do such a thing??

    cheers
    Wouter

What you’re doing is essentially the correct process – you’d temporarily switch to dev mode to place your order through the payment gateway if they have a sandbox mode or something similar.

To test items and checkout, you can duplicate items and set their visibility to Hidden. Only administrators would see them in this case. To avoid impacting income numbers, you can use a 100% off coupon code exclusive to testing purposes – this would also avoid you needing to switch Mollie settings.

As far as I’m aware there aren’t really any plans to develop anything in this regards because for the most part there isn’t much to develop, but if you have specific ideas on what you’d like to see then it would be great to have you submit them to the WooCommerce Ideas Board.
