I just installed BackWPUp today. Test emails from BackWPUp failed, but emails from running a task (one confirming database backup to the server and another with the database attached) succeeded.

Before spending a lot of time troubleshooting test emails like I did, consider setting up and trying an actual task!

I’m on WordPress 6.0 and sending email through Mailgun with the WPMail SMTP plugin.

Before installing WPMail SMTP, I tried all sending methods except for “Sendmail.” None of them worked.

    Hello @bobk88
I think just use the default WP sending email after you have configured the email sending will make the backup email works ^^
I hope my answer could help!

Thanks for the reply, but it appears you didn’t understand my post.

The only problem was when I tried to send a TEST email. I tried three different methods, as I mentioned, and none of them worked (including the default WordPress email function).

But when I created and ran a real backup task, my preferred method – using the WPMail SMTP plugin – worked. And scheduled backups have continued to work since then!

Based on my tests, it appears there could be a problem with the test email feature, but if nobody else is reporting a similar problem, maybe it’s just something in my setup.
