• I just installed the free version to test it before buying the Premium. I activated and added my business Yelp API details. How do I select the page of my website on which the Yelp info appears (and where – must there be a sidebar layout?), and with the free version, can I select anything as far as what appears, such as showing the number of reviews for the business, the stars, and a few reviews? Thanks for any help. I do no see options on how to manage, other than adding the API info.

    Hi there,

Sorry you’re struggling to get the plugin up and running. For future reference all our documentation including a 101 guide is here:
    https://wordimpress.com/documentation/yelp-widget-pro/

The free version is a widget, so yes, you’ll need to list it via a page with a sidebar or widget area. The Pro version has a shortcode that can be embedded anywhere on your site.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply – I did look at the 101, but it mainly pertains to the premium version. I’m happy to buy that once I test the free version to make sure it works with my Lambda theme and other plugins. So, how do I “list” the free widget on a page? I can set up a page with a sidebar, but I don’t see how to “list” it. Thanks so much.

    Hi there,

The 101 pertains to both Free and Pro. The primary doc that isn’t relevant to Free is the Shortcode doc.

Go to “Appearance > Widgets” and find the Yelp Widget Pro widget in the left-hand column and drag it into the sidebar of your choice. Then click it to open up the options.

    Thanks!

Maybe it is because I’m using a theme (Lambda) with WPBakery Visual Composer, but I can’t drag the widget to the page. I get an http, which is what shows up on my page in preview. This isi what happened when I switched to “Backend” or regular WP mode – just the http. Suggestions?

Also, I’m not sure what I’m missing on the 101, but the chapters are FAQ, which doesn’t have much except how to upgrade, 101 for Premium, which shows features I have not seen in the free version, or haven’t been able to activate, the business vs. search API info, which was useful, and the shortcakes, which don’t apply. Is there more?

    Thanks again!

While the video of the 101 shows the Pro version, 90% of what you see in that video is in the FREE version as well. I’m sorry I can’t speak more directly to what is happening for your widgets and sidebar area, but the basics is that once you add our widget to your sidebar you will see the options there and be able to list your YELP reviews via the widget.

To troubleshoot and maybe at least know what to expect from the plugin, I’d suggest switching to the Twentysixteen theme and disabling Visual Composer. Then once you see how it works, switch back and see if you have further progress. If you cannot reach your “Appearance > Widgets” page in general then most likely you have a plugin conflict. I’d disable ALL plugins except Visual Composer and Yelp and try then.

While I’d like to be as generally helpful as possible, this sounds mostly like general WordPress issues rather than something specific to our plugin. But if you find something specific that is problematic with our plugin then let me know in detail and I’ll try to duplicate it on my end and see if I can resolve that.

    Thanks!
