Terrific Forum plugin, great support

I’ve tried several different forum plugins over the past few years, notably both bbPress and Simple:Press. While both were good, each had enough ‘cons’ (for our particular needs) to have me searching once again for a replacement. I more or less stumbled across this one, wpForo Forum, and I’m really glad I found it!

First, I must say I’m really impressed with the incredible amount of features for a free plugin….it does things out of the box that other forum plugins I’ve tested required either a ‘pro’ level version or paid add-ons to do. While wpForo does have some very nice paid add-ons, the free version offers a lot and is more than adequate for what we need. As a bonus, the developers have created a migration tool that can import an existing forum from many popular WP forum plugins (it’s also possible to migrate from non-WP plugin-based standalone forums but user passwords – due to the hashing – cannot be imported so forum users would have to reset their passwords….overall likely a small inconvenience if your need to move your forum into WP outweighs other factors). I migrated my forum from one of the others and it went amazingly well.

One of the features I most like is that it keeps forum posts (topics, posts, and replies) in it’s own tables, rather than co-mingling them into the wp_posts and wp_comments tables as some other plugins do, which makes it SUPER simple to move the forum in it’s entirety if needed (we recently needed to move only the forum to a new site).

The documentation is well-laid out and easy to navigate and understand, and the support is excellent. I had one minor issue (with how to keep some of our WP users from being forum members) and my question was answered with a perfect solution in less than 24 hours.

I absolutely have no hesitation in recommending this plugin to anyone looking to add a simple, easy-to-use Forum to their website.
