    Hello,

If the email server that is my smarthost/gateway for email delivery is reply for a delivery attempt with “Temporarily unable to process your email. Please try again later.” – does this plugin holds some kind of temp queue and retry the delivery again later?

    Thanks!

    What do you say?
I see for each such failed delivery, in the event log, there is a “resend” button, to do a manual retry, but I don’t see such “engine” setting to retry later automatically

Also, at the event log – please add a bulk action of “resend” – it will greatly help to semi-automate the resend of temp fail deliveries.

Also, after resend – please do not remove the log even of the temp blocked delivery – it damages the real history of events, please leave the fail event and add a new event for the resend and mark at a resend of a the previous failed delivery.
possibly consider giving unique IDs for each delivery, so you will be able to link the successful resend with the original, failed, delivery.
    Thanks.

And, please also add the ability to filter the event log by the outcome of the delivery – successful, failed (with sub-reasons).
    Thanks.

the message come from the mail server, check the email server logs for the reason.

    Yep, I got it eventually.

You somehow need to surface this fact to the users.

The plugin let you set remote email server config – while in reality the local mail server, at the OS level is the “proxy”, the first that the plugin interacts with.

This caused me a longer troubleshooting process as I drilled into the remote email server and I was surprised to find no relevant log events…

I guess this also affects the connectivity tests – as they are actually run against the local server and not the one mentioned in the plugin’ settings (unless the settings are of the same local server)

    what do you mean proxy?

if you didn’t configure SMTP, it will use the default mail defined locally.

I configured smtp and a remote server, a FQDN that is translated to an IP address of a server on the internet, not the local server – but the delivery is somehow first handled by the local exim mail server (part of cpanel-whm). It never reach the remote server if the intended recipient is of a local, on the same server, domain

it’s not sound logical, but maybe something in config cause to strange behavior.
anyway glad you found the issue.

You say that your plugin should initiate a TCP session directly with the remote server and port that I configured in the plugin? even if the recipient is local?

Yes, if you configured everything correctly.

If some of the configurations are wrong the plugin is not configured and will default to the local server.

I believe I configured it great, but still the above is happening… can I troubleshoot this with you?

I can send you the config export and the relevant log I see in the local exim server and the final email headers.

If OK – how can I send it all securely to you?

    https://postmansmtp.com/contact

check the plugin email log and send me one of the email session transcripts.

    (@eitanc)

OK, since the link’s page is not allowing file upload – I will upload only the transcript from the event log, the headers and the exim relevant log.

    Thanks!

Sent you the info via the link form you mentioned
