I’m trying to access a member section of a website that I have a paid subscription to and I got this error message from Wordfence: “You are temporarily locked out You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to log in for a while.”

What do you mean by “a while”? 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 100 years? There’s no way to reset password and bypass this? I mean come on, help please!

  • Hey @ehong33234,

The quickest way back into a site if you’ve been locked out is to rename the Wordfence plugin directory in wp-content > plugins to something like wordfence.bak using sFTP or your hosting control panel. This will manually disable the plugin.

As for how long the lockout will exist, it depends on your lockout time configuration. Once you’re back in the site you can review this.

Also, if you have a static IP you might consider whitelisting it so this doesn’t happen in the future.

    Thanks,

    Hey @ehong33234,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved.

Please feel free to open another thread if you’re still having issues with Wordfence.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

I have followed your advice as the same thing happened to me, but I have one question. This gets me into the site, but it is pointless to keep the Wordfence plugin off as it defeats the purpose of it. What do you suggest I do to stop the site admins from being locked out as well as fixing the problem now?
