Templating Issue with single-recipe.php

I wanted to keep my templates separate from the add-on so updates didn’t override it so I followed the instructions listed. I created /theme/recipes/ folder and uploaded all of the pertinent files to it.

I can make adjustments to all of the templates except for single-recipe.php. Any changes made do not reflect what is live. Only the instance of plugins/recipes/templates/single-recipe.php is able to reflect changes on live.
