    Hello! I’m Illusion, and I just joined the forums because I’m getting this weird problem with the scrollbars acting up in the “boxes” containing the template code. I’ve also noticed that’s it’s happening right now on this TEXTAREA box while I type this question. Anyway, to clarify things, this is what’s happening. I’ll go to the template page to change something in my template. The textbox containing the template code looks fine; the scrollbar is acting as it is. I can scroll up and down. However! If I type in anything, or change anything by deleting or adding a word or what not, the scrollbar disappears! The textbox will sudenly elongate horizontally the entire width of the template page, and the scrollbar will consequentally disappear! This is what just happened with this posting textbox, except that the textbox didn’t elongate all the way, and only partially. I can still see part of the scrollbar.
    <P>
    I’ve searched around this forum, and so far, no one seems to have brought up such a complaint. I asked about it on another board, and apparently, this only happens in IE, which I’m currently using (IE6, to be exact). People who use Opera or Firebird, or basically Internet providers other than IE, say they do not have such a problem.
    <P>
    I was wondering how I could fix this. I can still scroll using the pointer on my mouse, but it’s definitely not has handy as a working scrollbar. And since the textbox elongates off the screen, sometimes I can’t see what I’m writing, which makes it more likely for me to mess up my code. I hope that someone will be able to either help me or fix this bug in the next version of WordPress to be released. I hope this is a valid question, too. Thank you!

    yes, that happens to me too – right now when I’m posting here, it’s happening.
    I don’t know what’s up with that, but it bugs me… then I have to use the arrow keys to scroll through the code.

    Why not just switch to a better browser?

    Unfortunately, I can’t do that, because the machine I use is my mom’s laptop, which she in turn is borrowing from her company, and she forbids me to download anything on here, for fear that I might destroy it beyond recognition. And then she’d get fired, and that wouldn’t be so great for the family, since she’s the only one with an income. I know I must sound like I’m making up an excuse, but really, if I could switch to something better, wouldn’t anybody jump to the chance? What I’ve said is completely true, only condensed to a sentence or two.

    If the behaviour is what I think, then it’s because of IE and the way it works.
    I’m fairly sure Firefox can be run from CD ?

    Scrollbars without a doubt give rise to the most inconsistent, irrational and bug ridden browser implementations in CSS.

    I know Firebird could be run from its own folder without interfering with the registry, and therefore could be run from a CD, but not sure if that’s possible with Firefox. We sometimes forget that people using work computers, public computers etc. are forced into using IE, but the fact remains that WordPress is designed for use with standards-compliant browsers. Inserting hacks to make this site and the standard files look OK in IE would interfere with the purity of the code.

    seriously speaking, we cant ignore IE for atleast 2-3 year i believe…

    I feel really unfortunate. The CD drive on my mom’s laptop also doesn’t work. -_- I think it was because of me. In fact, I actually have to admit that my mom was right when she said I ruin everything I touch. -_- All right, I’ll try to bear up with the nuisance. ?? And sorry about the similarity of the usernames; Illusion.NU is the domain that I’m using for my blog, on which I use WordPress, so in the flurry of signing up, I chose ‘Illusion.’ ??

    Your mom seems to be coping with a lot what with a full on computer hacker to look after. Many of us here wish you (and your mom) a lot of luck. Our thoughts are with you. Some of us when we were young have been there. But it does all get better. In the end. I promise.
