I have installed my theme, but I get an error when I want to activate my theme:
“The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.” Description: Template is missing.

I have customised several themes before but never experienced this problem…

  • A common issue that can occur is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly.

Browse the contents of your theme folder and find the actual theme folder. If you look inside the theme folder, you will see a “style.css” file. This is how you know you have found the theme folder.
Using an FTP client, upload ONLY the theme folder to your “wp-content/themes” folder.
Login to your WordPress admin panel and activate the theme.

    Tried that. Still the same…
By the way this is a customised theme that I made from scratch, like many times before…

Is the folder structure and location of your theme’s style.css:
    /wp-content/themes/mytheme/style.css

my css files is in a folder called css.

    So: /wp-content/themes/mytheme/css/style.css

At the very minimum, a WordPress Theme consists of two files:
    style.css and index.php
Both of these files go into the Theme directory.
