    Hello,

I have read this article about using responsive images in WordPress: the url is : https://enginescout.com.au/wordpress-image-sizes/

I use at this moment for background 1920-1080px images.

and I use for each content for each page 900-500px imag.

I have only uploaded this 2 formats.

before I ask my question I read this :

Whenever you upload an image, WordPress automatically creates 4 different image sizes:

    Thumbnail size (150 x 150 pixels)

    Medium size (maximum 300 x 300 pixels)

    Large size (maximum 1024 x 1024 pixels)

Full size (the original size of the uploaded image)

    my question is now :

shall I leave this 2 formats of my images as it is . (I mean 1920-1080 and 900-500px) or shall I change this featured image format from 900-500px to 1200-900 for landscape and 900-1200 for portrait?

I want to be sure as beginner what to do in this subject.

I know I am going to use compression and webp format to make it responsive plus cdn .

    thanks

The image sizes in media settings are bounding boxes. Whatever you upload, the image will be scaled to fit within the box (except thumbnails, which will be cropped to make the image match the specified dimension).

There are probably dozens of different opinions on this. I suggest making one of the image sizes in media settings the size you wish to use on posts and pages, so 900×900 bounding box. If you have no need for 1024×1024 images, “large” is perhaps the size to change.

Your background image sizes are fine as-is. Specify full size when you define backgrounds. You could upload all images as 1920×1080 if you want, whether for background or not. You can use the large image size in posts and pages, and full for background. Even if the image is not intended for a background, it’ll be available if you should desire it as background sometime in the future.

When you change media size settings, the new settings only affect newly uploaded images. Images uploaded earlier remain the size they were. Existing images can be regenerated to the new sizes by using a plugin such as Regenerate Thumbnails.
