I haven’t been able to find this issue in the forums, but if someone has already reported this, please point me in that direction.

I cannot get the Advanced Custom Fields ACF – Post Object field to work with TEC 6. https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/post-object/

I wrote custom code to be able to select three specific events for a client’s homepage, using Post Object. In ACF Post Object settings, I’ve filtered to Event content type, but when I try to select an event, it says “No results found.” If I do not filter to Event – or select any other content type, including Venue, it works just fine. I’m able to select an event, but I would prefer the client not have to search through every post, but instead only Events.

I am on the latest versions of ACF and TEC. (ACF Pro 6.0.5 and TEC 6.0.5 and TEC Pro 6.0.4) The client’s live site is on the latest version of ACF, but I haven’t upgraded past TEC 5.16.4. The Post Object is working fine with TEC 5.

  • I have the same problem. Thanks for reminding me that I could take the “event” type off the filter and have the field at least work, while being more cumbersome. I’m hoping another comment will get this post some attention. My client is also having trouble with the date fields – I’m just about to dig into that too.

Hi @scolombo @pixeleric, we’ve had some changes with v6, and we have retired a couple of functions that could trigger the issue here → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/k/developer-changes-version-6-0-with-legacy-views-removal/.

That being said, I’d need more details. For me to understand and learn more about your setup, could you provide the following version of the following?

    1. PHP
    2. WordPress
    3. The Events Calendar
    4. Theme and Version

Also, it would be good to reach out to the ACF team since this is an extension they created. Please do let me know how it goes on their end as well.

    Best,
    Abz

Hi @abzlevelup, thanks for the reply. Here’s my setup:

    1. PHP 7.4.1
    2. WordPress 6.1.1
    3. TEC 6.0.5 and TEC Pro 6.0.4
    4. Custom theme I wrote based on FoundationPress

I haven’t reached out to the ACF team because all evidence points to an issue with TEC v6, but I will do so.

Hi @abzlevelup, thanks for the reply. Here are our details:

    1. PHP 8.1
    2. WordPress 6.1.1
    3. TEC 6.0.5 and TEC Pro 6.0.4
    4. Custom Theme using ACF Pro Flexible Content Fields (we use this to allow my clients to select two events to feature on their home page).

    @abzlevelup and @scolombo:

I’m a paying customer of Advanced Custom Fields Pro and put in a support ticket referencing this topic page. I will let you know what I hear back from ACF.

Thank you @pixeleric – I am also a paying member, so if you’d like me to do the same, let me know – if it’s in their forum, I’d be happy to go add a comment.

@scolombo I put it in as a private ticket within their support system. Hopefully from either TEC or ACF we’ll have a solution soon!

Here’s the response I got from ACF Support:

The issue most likely is from the Events calendar plugin. Can you maybe use this as a possible workaround – https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/dynamically-populate-a-select-fields-choices/

Try to dynamically load the dropdown with the post types based on the filtering you want. You could query the database using wp query and load the exact posts you want. Consider this as a workaround as the issue might take a while.

Instead of this “workaround” I’ll likely just take the filter off the Post Object field and unfortunately make my client scroll through every page, post, and content type item instead.

I definitely don’t want to call this issue resolved, however!

Thanks for reporting back. I’m not surprised this is what they recommend, and I agree, the easier workaround is really just making them remember the name of the event they are looking for and using the search in the selection dropdown. It’s just a pain!

I will offer this option to my client, but I don’t think they will want to pay me to filter the dropdown if they can already do a search on it.

Hi @scolombo @pixeleric, thanks for sharing — I’d also share this with our team.

I’d check with them regarding this and get back to you whenever I hear from them.

    Hi there,

We’re back with good news for you.

The compatibility between TEC and ACF Post object field is fixed!

As always, we suggest testing updates on a staging site first and having a recent backup, but it should all be smooth sailing.

Please update your Events Calendar plugin to apply that fix to your site.

    Best Regards,
