Team Name Change

    Hi all,

    Is there a way to change the name of a team, but still keep their previous name in the historic data?

    For example, ‘London A’ have been playing in the league for 5 years and have won the league every year. Their club has now shut and are having to move to Manchester, meaning their new team name is ‘Manchester A’. Simply renaming the team will mean the previous league tables will show as being won by ‘Manchester A’ when it was actually ‘London A’ that won.

    The same situation occurs when, for example, ‘London B’ don’t register to play the following season, so ‘London C’ will then become ‘London B’. The history of the 2 teams will then become mixed up.

    I thought it might work if I create a brand new team (e.g. create a new ‘London B’) but this is causing duplicates in lists when trying to select teams for players and events. But more importantly, I wanted to keep the history for each of the teams.

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

  • If it’s only the league tables that are a problem (if I remember rightly the matches should be ok) you can simply rename the team on the league table.

    Just go into the list of league tables, edit the one you want, find the team you want to change and click the pencil icon to edit it.

    Thanks for your suggestion. It would also need to be past fixtures I’m afraid. If that’s the only way that it can be done, then I guess we’ll have to just do it that way and unfortunately lose the data for the past fixtures.

    Once they are created I’m pretty sure the fixtures wouldn’t change if you subsequently amended one of the team names.

    We were going through a similar test ourselves and as far as I can remember the fixtures did stay the same.
