I am looking to use a custom post type I created called video with taxonomies just like categories but with a difference to catagories. I would like a slug in the way categories does . Categories as you know has /category to list categorise and /category/category name which lists post in that catagory. I would like to do this with a taxonomy where its called videos and has video categories I can select with check boxes just like categories does. I would turn archive off on the post type so /videos can be used. Please help me to duplicate the category function with my custom requirements. Thanks Matthew

If I’m understanding correctly, you want the custom post type to be “video” correct?

What do you want the taxonomy to be?

It sounds like you’re hoping to achieve urls like domain.com/video/tax_slug/tax_term_slug/ to get to the archive for the tax term archives.

Let me know if I’m on the mark or if I’ve strayed away from your intended results.

I think your on target, but im new to taxonomies and your plug-in so let me explain better what I want from the plug-in. Im doing a cooking blog and heres what im trying to do. This is one link I would use on the site https://www.realgoodmeals.com/videos/how-to . The link would be a index of how to videos. I wanted classify video pages that are how to as how-to with a taxonomy. The index would need to be a page I can style with css for the look I want. I can handle the css just no clue about taxonomies.
    Thanks for your help.

For some context, both categories and tags are examples of out-of-the-box taxonomies that WordPress provides for you.

If you’re familiar with both, like I hope you are, that would help dictate what direction you take any settings for the taxonomy you want to create, or one of those could be sufficient for your needs with this post type you’re setting up.

What direction would I start with to get the url as I previously described? Please lead me in a good direction and I can go from there.
    Thanks

Well have you set up your post type and taxonomy already? Created some terms for them, and wrote a post or two using them all? I assume you have permalinks enabled already, so you’ll be able to visit the single post url to see what shows up for it as is. If it’s matching already, awesome. If not, then we’ll need to check on some techniques on how to make that happen.
