• Hello!

I’m trying this plugin to help manage a large media library. We simply need a few basic media categories, which we have been able to add and everything seems to work well.

However, we use WPML, along with the WPML Media add-on, to manage the site in five different languages. The problem is that once I assign a category to a media item for one language, the other four languages do not reflect this change, so I have to update the category five times per image. This is a tedious task, and it would be a lot easier if the category could be shared by all languages.

I’m not sure if this is an issue you can fix or an issue best discussed with the folks over at WPML, but I figured I’ll start here just in case you have any suggestions.

    Thanks.

    Hello Marcus!

Thanks for informing me. I’d love to make EML compatible with major great WP plugins. I will check WPML compatibility in the near future, but I can’t promise it will be too soon, since I am working on some other tasks right now. I hope in a month or something…

Also I think it’s great idea to discuss this with WPML guys as well, since it’s just a matter of working with attachment post type taxonomies which are not WP native feature. It may be a reason why WPML ‘doesn’t know’ how to handle them.

    Thanks!

I hope you’ll be able to solve this, it would really help us out. I went ahead and posted a support request at WPML’s site as well. For your reference:

    Hi Jonas (and others),

Actually, EML is compatible with WPML right now, we just have to add some tuts to our documentation, that will be done in a bit. There is also WPML language configuration file in the new version of EML (will be available soon). But there is also a problem with synchronous saving of translated categories I can’t fix right now. I wrote last email to WPML team on Sunday, but I believe they also need some time to to study the problem.

    Hi Nadja,

    Hi Cristian,

The problem, according to my tests and researches, is not in Enhanced Media Library. WPML doesn’t seem to sync translations for taxonomies. At least, I can see complaints on their forum, and wasn’t able to make taxonomies (any, not only media) to sync on my testing website.

I have found a way to make them sync for media files, but

    1) the code isn’t well tested

    2) it isn’t, because I believe, it is not a functionality of Enhanced Media Library, but of WPML.

I described my researches and findings in great details and sent them, my experimental code, and the latest version of EML to WPML’s team. I hope, they will offer a solution.

I will let you know as soon as I have new information.

Hi Nadia, Amit here, WPML Compatibility team leader. Did you receive our email (from Harshad) regarding the use of icl_object_id function for the issue?
