Taxes not being charged
-
Hello,
I just processed my first order in my store, but no taxes were calculated in the payment breakdown. It included item price, shipping and payment processing percentage. The item is set to ‘taxable’ and my nexus is set up and supposedly auto calculated. I have the items listed exclusive of tax. Can you please help me fix this, so that tax is always charged?
Thanks

Hello swissschokolade
Thank you for contacting Woo support.
Could you go to WooCommerce → Settings and click the Tax tab?
Then share a screenshot of your Tax Settings page with me.
I want to review the tax settings and make sure they are configured properly. Also, open the individual taxes that you have configured and share screenshots with me.
This will help me check why the taxes are not working.Looking forward to your response. ??
Best regards.
Hey, @swissschokolade!
Thank you for the screenshots!
Your settings seem correct, I don’t see any issues with them.
The zipcode you used was 36867 like it shows on the screenshot you shared?
Can you please follow the steps below to test something?
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes
- Under Price display suffix add: {price_including_tax}
- save the changes
- Now go to the product page and see if it shows the tax next to it like the image below
- You can remove this after checking ??
Can you also please share a screenshot of what you see on the product edit page under Product Data?
Looking forward to your reply.
Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for the reply. So, the “simple product” shows the “tax” after I added the {price_including_tax}, but the “variable product” does not.
I tried this on 2 different stores. Here are the screenshots: https://postimg.cc/gallery/G4Zj5rB
Hello swissschokolade
Thank your for your reply.
For the the variable products could you select any variations and then check again?
By default, a variable product will display a range of prices depending on the variation prices. Please try this step and let me know about the result. ??
Best regards.
Hello Zubair Zahid (woo-hc) (@doublezed2),
Thank you for your help. Yes, it did show tax on the variable products, after I made a selection on the one site: Screenshot. However, on the other site, it didn’t show on the products, even after I made a selection. Screenshots

Hello ?? @swissschokolade,
If I understand you correctly, one site is now showing taxes when variable products are selected, while the other is not showing any tax? IS that the case?
Could you please help confirm that you have similar tax settings on both sites?
Hello ckadenge (woo-hc) (@ckadenge),
This is the correct understanding ???? . Both sites have the exact same tax settings but different themes. Both have the Nexus set for Alabama. One shows the taxes with that code in place for variable products and one does not. Both show the tax with that code in place for simple products.
Could someone please provide a fix for this issue???
One shows the taxes with that code in place for variable products and one does not. Both show the tax with that code in place for simple products.
This is indeed unusual and not expected behavior.
However, since both of your sites have identical tax settings but different themes, could you please try a little experiment for us? Could you please temporarily switch both sites to a default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-Four) or even to the same theme as each other and see if the issue persists? This will help us figure out if the theme is causing the problem or if it’s something else entirely.
Just a quick reminder – make sure you clear all caches after you switch the themes and before you start testing.
Rest assured, I’ve done some testing, and everything seems to be working fine for both simple and variable products.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Hi Shaneem,
I changed the theme of the one that didn’t show the tax, and it still doesn’t show tax on the 2024 theme. The cart had tax at $0.00 as well. The images are attached.
Is there anything that can be tested? I don’t think it is theme dependent.
Thanks!
Angela
It seems to be a plugin conflict. I am slowly enabling them to find out which one it is. Since this is the case, can you please let me know what I should do now to tell the system to charge taxes on each item? I assume adding {price_including_tax} was just a test. What is the permanent fix?
Just to be clear: Both sites show a figure next to the price on simple and variable products, when I add {price_including_tax} to the table.
Thank you,
Angela
?? hey @swissschokolade
Thank you for reaching back, with further details on this.

It sounds like a plugin conflict, indeed. Let us know of the findings!

I’d recommend taking a look at this document, if the chance to do so didn’t come up yet.
Just to be clear: Both sites show a figure next to the price on simple and variable products, when I add {price_including_tax} to the table.
Kindly share screenshots of this, once the conflict test is concluded.
I hope this is helpful! We look forward to your response. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Both sites appear to be charging taxes based on the shipping address now. So, was this “{price_including_tax}” the fix? Am I right to assume the Automated Taxes knows how much to charge, for different parts of Alabama? Like, outside my the city where I have my license, the tax rate is different. Is it safe to say that this is taken care of?
Thank you
Hello swissschokolade,
Thank you for your reply.
I am glad to know that you have found a solution.
The {price_including_tax} is a dynamic placeholder that shows the price including tax.
For more information, check this guide.I understand you have enabled automated taxes on your site.
This means WooCommerce will automatically calculate the correct taxes based on the customer’s shipping address. Please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you have more questions or concerns.
We are here to help ??Best regards.
