Tax Receipt

  • Hi there,

    I saw a message thread posted a while back, in which someone asked if automatic email tax receipts are doable within this plugin, and the plugin author had said that it wasn’t at the time. So I am just wondering if it is available to do so now?

    Also, if it is not, is there an add-on to the seamless donation plugin that would allow one to do so?

    Not yet. I’m just at the point where adding add-ons is beginning to be possible. But I’ve been focused on bringing in core functionality and fixing some nasty bugs up to this point.

    That said, if you wanted to describe how you would see tax receipts working, I’d definitely add it to the cool ideas list.

    I think being able to send automatic tax receipts to the donors will add a nice feature to the plugin experience.

    Wouldn’t a thank you for your donation email serve as a receipt? It usually has the name of the charity and the amount donated.

    David,

    Although that sounds like a nice gesture, we need it for other reasons. Namely, we want the donations to be tax-deductible. For that, the donors need a receipt of their donation so that they can show/ proof that they donated.

    Does that make sense?

    Ah, so something that actually says “receipt” on it? As you can tell, I’m not an accountant.

    Yes!

    I believe it would be enough to just receive an email that says “receipt” and lists the amount that was donated.

    Does that make sense?

    Doable: yes. A high priority, probably not so much. It’s on the list, and it will probably be done at some point if/when I get into the email-sending code. Since that’s relatively stable for now, it’s not something I’d recommend you count on.
