We had a sale and the sale is in CA and so the customer should be charged CA tax based on his location. Tax was not charged for the sale so what can I do to fix it because now we have to pay the tax out of own pocket.

Ok but this doesn’t make sense because the user must enter an address on the checkout page otherwise how will we know where to send the stuff? And the order in question the user did enter an address but the tax was still not added.

So in my opinion I feel the paypal button is on the wrong screen since if you do not have paypal express you enter your credit card details on the next page where you do have to enter an address because the system forces you. With your plugin it allows you to skip a step and make payment on the cart page instead of the actual checkout page, before you filled in an address. How can someone get something without putting in an address? With your plugin you pay first and then you enter an address, which in my opinion is wrong you should first fill in an address because without an address the order is useless to the customer, which in any scenario is the most important.

Any case if you can change it to have the paypal button on the next screen where you actually pay for the stuff you ordered after you enter you address then great. If you don’t want to then we cannot use the plugin.

    Thanks for the help though

    Hi @calfree,

The very purpose of having an express checkout button is to skip entering the address in the site and enter only in the PayPal page. This address will be definitely sent back to the site and saved in the order details. It is useful is sites where tax is fixed and is not calculated based on address or even when the shipping address is required to the calculated shipping amount. On your site, the address is required to calculate the tax but as you don’t have shipping, it is not collected at the cart page, and hence this workflow won’t be feasible for you.

You can remove the PayPal Express checkout options from cart and checkout pages and use the regular PayPal option among other payment gateways to suit your site configuration. Go to PayPal plugin settings > Show Express button on to remove the buttons from those pages.

Hope this would address your concern.

PS: You may please delete the test order 9123 we placed in your site
