    Hi,

I am having an issue with the tax setup on Jigoshop. My understanding from the message on the checkout page is that when a valid VAT number is entered the tax should be removed at the next stage. However this does not appear to be the case just now. I have set the base country region to UK and set a standard rate tax up for the UK of 20% in the tax settings. I have tried with multiple valid UK VAT numbers and none have the tax deducted once I progress the order and it carries the tax right through to the SagePay payment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi, I have updated and it is still applying the VAT even when a valid VAT number is entered in to the system. Should I email admin access to someone at Jigoshop to investigate this?

yes please do it via [email protected] with link to that topic

Thanks Marcin, I have emailed these as requested.

    Hi @altmode

This is exactly how Jigoshop should behave: when you are buying an item from UK company and you live in UK – VAT needs to be added. If you live in other EU country – VAT is not calculated.

This behavior is based on EU law, so I don’t think it is invalid.

The message below on the Jigoshop checkout page indicates that the VAT will be removed when the VAT number is entered. Why would Jigoshop display that message if the functionality is not there?

Here is what the message at the bottom states…

If you have entered an EU VAT Number, it will be looked up when you Place your Order and verified. At that time Only, will VAT then be removed from the final Order and totals adjusted. You may enter your EU VAT Number either with, or without, the 2 character EU country code in front.

It’s not about functionality – it would be no problem to do so.
It’s about the law that it would be against.
It seems that typo there could be improved – adding to to-do list for next upgrade. Thank you for pointing it out!

So the tax will always be added even when a valid VAT number is entered? I assume I would have to customise the Jigoshop backend files to make this deduct the VAT when valid VAT numbers are entered?

are you from UK? in that case it works fine as it works now. VAT should be deducted only if sby from other EU country do a purchase.
