    Hello Team,

I have an issue with my tax calculations. In my city we charge 2 taxes RST 7% and GST 5%, Woocommerce charging tax on the other tax because its compounding but I want them to just tax the product and shipping only. I will give an example for better understanding.

This is how woocommerce is calculating

We have product A for CA$435.95 + shipping CA$19.95 Taxes RST 7% = CA$30.52 (this is only taxed on product and not shipping and has priority 1) the second tax on product A is GST 5% = CA$24.32 (this is taxed on product and shipping only and has priority 2). I have checked both for compounding.
    Total = $510.74 – This is wrong as 5% of 435.95 + 19.95 = 22.7975

This is affecting our accounting and I would like to know how to fix this thanks. We have manually set this under standard rates

  • Hey there, @ogie! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

I’d like to try to replicate the issue on my website so we can investigate this further.

Can you please share screenshots of how you have this set up so we can take a look?

I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

    We need screenshots of:

    • WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes
    • WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes > Standard Rates
    • If you have reduced rates and zero rates, please also share those
    • Checkout page showing the taxes on your end
    • How the product price is entered on the back end
    • If you have an order of this product, please also share a screenshot or the order details where it shows all the values

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hello, thanks for reaching back to me.

    WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes – https://snipboard.io/5fDR7z.jpg

WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes > Standard Rates – https://snipboard.io/kj1FKy.jpg (focus on MB. its the 3rd and last on the list I believe)

If you have reduced rates and zero rates, please also share those – None

Checkout page showing the taxes on your end – https://snipboard.io/EY6LW5.jpg

How the product price is entered on the back end –https://snipboard.io/PQVlaW.jpg (just to be clear this issue is not product specific but location specific. You can use the address I shared here for testing purposes. Its when customers are in Winnipeg, MB Canada that the issue occurs because they tax RST & GST).

    Hi @ogie

The problem is with the compounding setting. By checking both taxes for compounding, you’re telling WooCommerce to apply the second tax (GST) on top of the first tax (RST). This is why you’re seeing a higher tax amount than expected.

To fix this, you should uncheck the “Compound” box for both taxes. This will ensure that both taxes are applied separately to the product and shipping costs, not on top of each other.

Please try this adjustment and let me know if this resolves the issue. If you have any other concerns, feel free to ask.

    Thanks!
