90% of the products in my site are taxed at 7.5%, if they are shipped to Ohio.

10% of the products in my site are taxed at 6.5% if they are shipped to Florida.

In Store Settings > Taxes, I did two things:
    (1) Set a rate for Ohio at 7.5%
    (2) Created a tax band for USA > Florida for 6.5%

I thought the next step would be to go to my Florida taxed products and put them in the Florida band.

But, I can’t find any Band selection in the product edit page. I also can’t find any helpful documentation on this (as I need to be sure those 10% of products are ONLY taxed if they are shipped to Florida).

Are tax bands not working? How do you set them on per product basis? What do they really do?

    Thanks!
    Joe

    Hi jrotella

It’s working as it’s designed. There is no way to set specific products to use a specific tax band. That was not the design. You can set tax bands that take effect at checkout depending on where a person is from but this is across all products not specific products.

You have a unique requirement that isn’t common. If you need this functionality I’d suggest hiring a developer from our experts page to help build this additional functionality.

    Edward,

    Please look at:
    https://docs.wpecommerce.org/taxes/

    According to that page:

    Tax Bands
Tax bands are tax rules that you can create and apply on a per product basis, for example alcohol in your country could have a higher tax rate than other products. Tax bands are perfect for this to create a tax band click the link add new tax band, give it a name eg “Alcohol New Zealand” select the country (New Zealand) and enter in the new tax rate.

This tax band can now be applied to a product and the different tax rate will be applied and over right the normal rate for that country.

    From what I can read
“Tax bands are tax rules that you can create and apply on a per product basis,..”

    You are correct.

Please check your tax settings to ensure “Product prices are tax inclusive

You most likely see this near the tax bands
Warning: Tax Bands do not take effect when product prices are tax exclusive.

Once you have this set you will find on the product page Tax section a menu to select the tax band for that product.

    Sorry I misunderstood.

My confusion … my product prices are tax EXclusive.

Seems that should be when bands apply – so you can tax different products at different rates (e.g., alcohol is taxed differently than clothing).

If the product is tax INclusive, I’m not sure why you would then set up a band, with a rate, for taxes. That would mean the taxes are already figured out for that product.

Since it says “This tax band can now be applied to a product and the different tax rate will be applied and over right the normal rate for that country.” the only way the tax could be overridden was if it was calculated to begin with..and not INcluded in the price. Right?
