Target=”_blank” not opening

    Hello,

    I have noticed that some affiliate links do not open at all on some browsers when using target=”_blank”. Particularly on Chrome on Windows and Firefox on Mac.

    For instance, on the linked page here, when clicking on the first button “Revendez vos bijoux en or ici”, a new tab opens and shuts immediately.

    Are you aware of any issue on Pretty Links that could prevent links from opening when using target=”blank”?

    Hi Marco,

    Are you using any sort of adblocker extensions within your browser? I wonder if that might be flagging the target URL. If so, could you please try turning it off and see if you get redirected correctly?

    Hi Tyler,

    I am using uBlock Origin and the problem went away after de-activating it. Same with Adblock Plus.

    So now the next question is: why does it do it only with Awin affiliate links and not other platforms? But I’m guessing this has nothing to do with Pretty Links, right?

    EDIT: the Pretty Link works if I remove target=”_blank”. But it doesn’t work if I hit ctrl+click to open it in a new tab.

    Is there an easy way to remove all target=”_blank” on Pretty Links that are already published?

    Hi Marco,

    It’s difficult to say for certain why the ad blocker might be causing this behavior for only links being opened in a new tab, but it’s likely matching some sort of filter they’re using for the extension. The problem isn’t within the Pretty Links plugin itself, though.

    You could use a plugin such as WP External Links to have those existing pretty links open in the same window instead of a different tab.
