Tags / Taxonomy in Editor: Most Recent instead of Most Used

Since a recent update (5.8?) I’m seeing a list of Most Used tags in the sidebar when editing / creating a new post. Same for other taxons, including custom. This is potentially a neat enhancement since I find myself often working on a topic across several subsequent posts before moving on to the next topic, but I’d much rather see a list of *recently* used tags, not those that are *most* used.

I’m not sure if this is a feature request (likely other users might appreciate this) or a question on how I can change this functionality with custom code (I’m fine with developing plugins), but I’m grateful for any pointers
