Tags in post edit-mode are grayed out

I disabled all the plugins, but still the same problem.

Have also tried switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Twenty, etc.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins)?

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Health Check was already installed.
Site health: Good
Enabled troubleshooting mode -> tried to enter in edit mode on few articles. The same problem:

in the network tab quickly changes the status from 200 to pending and from pending to 200 back and forth…

In the console log I have hundreds of Fetch finished loading: GET “https://www.example.com/wp-json/wp/v2/tags?health-check-disable-plugin-hash=6dcbee2265248e2654410af46e110df241ed2a1315b11631662e2157878148ec&page=2&_locale=user”

But no errors

What did you do at the site before this issue occurred? Update WP/theme/plugins? Any changes?

Nothing I can recall of. For sure not theme changes. The only things I changed were plugin updates, I do them from time to time. But disabling the plugins the issue persists. Also with the default theme the issue persists.

Also what I did not so long time ago was a WP update.

I’ve just found out that all my blogs in that server have the same problem. And it happened in the last few days. Because I created a post few days ago, and the tags field was working fine in a blog.

Nothing was changed in the VPS…

I found the bug. For some reason in the vhost I had:
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php$args;

instead of
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args;

Glad its sorted ??
