br tags ignored

    I’m using the Recent Posts Widget to create a condensed listing of posts, because the theme spreads them out over dozens of pages. Unfortunately, the excerpt is ignoring the <br> tags in the post, causing two lines of text to run together. I can put a space in between, but I’d really like the excerpt to display with the <br> tags intact so the two lines appear on two lines. Any suggestions?
