I would like to give more options for the field used for tags on ActiveCampaign, but I can’t say it is on any road map. More of a wish list when I get round to it, I’m afraid.
Currently the custom ‘ActiveCampaign Tag’ on the product is for the whole product. As are the ‘Product tags’ and ‘Product categories’. Only the SKU can be maintained at the variation level by standard WC. I have seen plugins/extensions that allow ‘Product tags’ and ‘Product categories’ to be maintained at the variation level.
In an ideal world I would like the plugin to allow the option of using any of these fields to generate tags on ActiveCampaign e.g.
- ActiveCampaign Tag -> Product Tag -> SKU -> Category (use the first available field in the sequence)
- ActiveCampaign Tag -> Product Tag (use custom tag if available otherwise use Product Tags)
- Product Tag -> ActiveCampaign Tag (use standard product tags if available otherwise use custom tag).
This approach would also (hopefully) be able to select the field from the variation (if the field was available at that level) rather than the whole product. So this approach would solve your problem.
Anyway this is of no help to you unless I develop it, and I can’t commit to doing that just now. I’m afraid the only work around is to have separate products rather than variations.
