I have a child theme here. It’s based on the Core theme from Studiopress. But the tags don’t work. When I select a tag it simply takes me to a post on my blog. I wonder if I messed up the child theme.

    Any suggestions?

  • i can’t find anything unusual – clicking on a tag goes to an ‘archive of blabla’ page, which shows (at the moment) one post.

do you have the same tag on several posts?
if so, please post a link to this tag.

When I had my blog on WordPress.com, when I clicked on a tag, I got several references to pages on WordPress.com to the related subject. I thought that when I moved to a self-hosted blog that I would get the same results.

    I guess I’m missing something . . .

    Thanks

When you navigate to a tag, your loop of posts gets filtered to just display that tag. On your site, this appears to be happening as it should; it’s just that your loop in the child theme you’re working on is setup to look the same everywhere.

However, if you’re wanting an archive of posts for a tag to look different than the standard loop you’re using on your homepage, then your theme would need to be setup in this way, with a theme file that specifically targets a tag archive.

Understanding template hierarchy in creating a WordPress theme would be really helpful here:

As far as the proper way to implement these changes in your Genesis child theme, you may want to post over in their customer support forum. They do sort of have their own system going on over there.
