• I’ve been using the MU Sitewide Tags plugin for years to aggregate content on the main page from my subdomains. I selected the option to post on the main blog. I have a Genesis/Studiopress theme. I also set the main page to be hidden from search engines since it didn’t generate original content. However, nos some of my content originates on the main blog therefore hiding it from search engine bots is not good. On the other hand, having duplicate content visible to the search engine bots is also a problem.

    So basically, my question is:

If switch settings to use a tags blog, how can I display (or can I) display those posts on my main blog?

You can’t have partial search indexing of posts on a site. Moving to a tags blog & displaying those posts by another method on the main site won’t solve the duplicate content issue.

It would be easier to switch to a tags blog & use the same theme & menu items on both the main site & tags site to make the two sites appear as one.

Thanks Ron. I notice that as long as the sitewide tags plugin remains activated, the duplicate tags posts show a permalink of the original subdomain post? Is it the permalinks that the search engine bots look at? Am I worried about a problem that isn’t?

No, it’s the post content itself being shown on the tags blog that flags the duplicate content.

Hi Ron, thanks for your responses. Does the setting to have the tags page not indexed by search engines apply when the plugin is set up to have the main blog receive the posts? I’m assuming so but just want to make sure I understand correctly.
