We have had some issues with custom events in analytics not showing any data. We also had issues were our conversion tag was not showing all sales or did so 48 hours later. Google support comes back to us and say

We have gone through your website again and we have found that the tags are still not firing properly, The account ID added in the Tag Manager snippet is wrong. I have shared the information with you in my previous email.

Also I have checked the website again and found multiple tags installed on your website, however we have also detected multiple errors on the tags which are mentioned below.

Multiple installations of Global site tag (gtag.js) detected.

Account ID in gtag.js URL is invalid or missing. The Google tag snippet loads gtag.js using the following path: /gtag/js?id=PRODUCT_ACCOUNT_ID, where PRODUCT_ACCOUNT_ID is an ID for the product and account (or property) from which the Google tag snippet was generated (or should be associated).

Failing to properly set this ID should not directly affect the data received by your accounts, but may affect future functionality.

Solution: Ensure that the ID in your gtag.js code is correct.

My main question is regarding their comment “The account ID added in the Tag Manager snippet is wrong” since we have followed site kit setup there is not much we can do wrong and we have checked all values in site kit and as far as we can see we have the correct analytics account number, the correct g4 property id, correct measure id and correct tag id. Same goes for tagmanager being setup using site kit.

Google support asks us to report this to the site kit team since they say they cant help us with this.

What can we add here to make it easier for you to potentially help us out. Google support just said what we posted above and gave us link to https://support.google.com/tagassistant/answer/3207128?ref_topic=2947092#multiple_tags

If we in analytics click we want to install the g4 tag manually we can see <script async src=”https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-Q4KNPHCKV6″></script&gt; should be added. We can also see G-Q4KNPHCKV6 in the site kit settings. So all looks ok. But looking at the source on our pages and searching for it, it is missing.

Thanks for reaching out @linusl. Certainly I’d be happy to take a look at this for you. Note that we are limited to Site Kit support queries here, and should the issue be with configuration at Tag Manager level with your custom event configurations, you may need to reach out to the product experts over at the official Help Center. I’m aware they did direct you here, which is not uncommon, but I will do my best to assist should this be Site Kit related.

To determine more on this, and ensure firstly that Site Kit has placed your Tag Manager and/or your Analytics snippets on your site which are tracking, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Can you confirm that regular visits to your site are being tracked and appear within the Site Kit dashboard, with the Analytics property you have selected within Site Kit? (ie. It’s only the custom events that are not firing)
    3. Can you provide me with an example custom event you added, and how you added this?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Once we have this information, I’ll report back to you here after some checks. Thank you.

Many thanks. I have used the form and added all information there.

    1. Your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.??Done
    2. Can you confirm that regular visits to your site are being tracked and appear within the Site Kit dashboard, with the Analytics property you have selected within Site Kit? (ie. It’s only the custom events that are not firing).
From our understanding it is actually only our custom events done in analytics that are not working at all and conversions done in tag manager and added as conversion in analytics works but with 24+ hour delay and maybe that is normal. We also think data in site kit within wordpress is showing same values as inside analytics. But according to google something is not setup correct. And everything is pretty straight forward in site kit setup and in analytics and tag manager aswell. And we think a custom event in analytics should work without tag manager.
    3. Can you provide me with an example custom event you added, and how you added this? Under administration we click events, there we can see alot of events (also older custom events we tested with when using monsterinsight, when we deleted monsterinsight and added sitekit only all those events in the sitekit datastream are not adding any value). We click create event, we choose page_location and contains and /order-mottagen/ (swedish for order confirmed / thank you page). Like mentioned earlier, if we setup 5 custom events like this with different names. Activate monsterinsight then we get values in these custom events.

I also edited my first post and added this (not sure this is an error)
If we in analytics click we want to install the g4 tag manually we can see <script async src=”https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-Q4KNPHCKV6″></script&gt; should be added. We can also see G-Q4KNPHCKV6 in the site kit settings. So all looks ok. But looking at the source on our pages and searching for it, it is missing.

Many thanks for sharing this additional information @linusl. From reviewing your site, both manually and via the tagassistant.google.com service, I can see that your Analytics visits are firing as expected, against both your Site Kti placed GA4 snippet, and the GA4 property you have added via Tag Manager.

I can also see that based on your Ads conversion ID, there are events firing (see screenshot). The GA4 property associated with this conversation ID (AW-*****899) differs to the one that you have selected within Site Kit (G-S****NTD vs G-Q****KV6?). You may wish to ensure that you have the same GA4 property ID connected within Site Kit if you wish to track your site with a single GA4 ID.

With regards your original query in relation to why you don’t see your Site Kit connected GA4 property (G-Q****KV6) when checking your sites source code, this is normal, as Site Kit places this behind a Google tag ID, in your case GT-***LKM. This isn’t a Google Tag Manager container, it’s the new Google tag. We use this to place a GA4 snippet on users sites, and you’ll notice this in place of your GA4 snippet when checking your sites source code. See this guide for more information on this below:
    https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/using-site-kit/the-google-tag/

So to summarize, all looks good with your configuration. I don’t see any issues with tracking on your sites GA4 property, or with your conversation ID property. Let me know if you have any further questions on this. I would also advise using the tagassistant service to check tracking and events on your site. This is the successor to the legacy Chrome extension, where you likely noticed the “Multiple installations of Global site tag (gtag.js) detected.” notice.

Many thanks confirming “all” is ok.

I must have read this over 30 times

“The GA4 property associated with this conversation ID (AW-*****899) differs to the one that you have selected within Site Kit (G-S****NTD?vsG-Q****KV6?). You may wish to ensure that you have the same GA4 property ID connected within Site Kit if you wish to track your site with a single GA4 ID.”

And Ive been trying to figure out were the setup is incorrect. G-Q****KV6 is the correct one I can see clicking on the datastream in GA4 that I named Datastream Site Kit, it is the only setup/stream I have in analytics aswell. I cant seem to find G-S****NTD anywere. Can you give me a hint were I should look and were I should make this change, is it in analytics, is it in ads or tagmanager? They all seem to be linked fine when I jump between them looking at all the settings.

    @jamesosborne
Hi again. Turns out G-S****NTD is for another site (same main account but separate property) and I have no idea how that got into the tracking in google ads but I will take that issue with google. Many thanks.
