Tagging files with custom fields or similar?

  • Is it possible to tag files with custom fields or some other ‘hookable’ approach? Prefer to keep using WP’s media library (not some arbitrary add-on).

    For example, want to list all files with a specific tag.

    Tried searching, but didn’t see any talk of such a feature.
