• Sorry to bring this up again as I know there have been other topics started in the past (like 3 years ago) but I’m trying to help a client with their WP blog and all we want to do is install a tag cloud.

But when we install any of the WP tag cloud plugins, some of the tags when you click on them take you to 404 errors. And we don’t understand why.

We don’t know if there is a plugin installed causing this problem or what it has to do with permalinks.

I would greatly appreciate some very clear instructions on how to resolve this problem from the great WP community. Thank you in advance.

  • WordPress has a tag cloud widget – deactivate those plugins and use that.

Unfortunately, your response doesn’t resolve my problem. I’ve been using WP tag cloud widget(s) and not one of them is solving my problem.

Here’s a new development. Where there is only word that has been tagged once in a blog post, the tag cloud shows the tag as “one topic.” And when I click on that tag, it takes me to a 404. But a tag in the cloud that has 2 or more topics, takes me to the page of the tag.

So what’s going on here? Does a tag need more than one topic in order for the tag cloud to work properly and take you to the appropriate tag?

I tried Colored Tags Tag Cloud plugin and the same problem occurs. Where there are multiple tags to a particular keyword, the tag cloud works.

But if you only have tagged one word, then the tag cloud does not work and when that word appears in your tag cloud and you click on it, it sends you to a 404. Is it suppose to work that way?
