Tag cloud

  • Hi,
    I have a problem with the tag cloud in my blog. I am unable to configure the tag cloud to display tags of different sizes, according on their number of hits. I’d like them to display in standard tag cloud fashion, with bigger words for tags used more often, but in my tag cloud all tags are identical. Hope this is not a feature of this theme, because I don’t like the tag cloud like that and, apart from this, I like this theme very much.
    Is there a setting somewhere or a way to solve this problem?
    Moreover, I suspect that not all the tags are displayed (but I am not sure of that one, I still hadn’t time to check on that).
    Somebody can help me?

  • Each theme styles its tag cloud differently. It is hard to style a tag cloud. I have used the Ultimate Tag Cloud Widget Plugin to create some groovy tag clouds.

    According to this post in the BytesForAll support forum:

    In Montezuma the different sizes of tags in the cloud is removed for a stramlined display. CSS classes are available (see Widgets/Tag Cloud in the CSS section) for applying not just different sizes but any kind of style based on popularity of a tag.

    What this means is that you can set any styling for the tags in the tag cloud, not just font size.

    Go to Appearance > Montezuma Options > CSS Files > widgets_tagcloud.css. In that virtual CSS file is the styling for the tag cloud. The first rule is the default styling (the font-size is set to 13px), and the second rule is activated when the mouse is hovered over the tag. The rest of the rules (.tagcloud a.tagsize-1 through 6) are empty, and that’s where you can specify the styling for the different tag sizes. You can probably leave tagsize-1 empty so it takes the default font size of 13px, but then just add font-size properties to all of the others, in increasing size. Hopefully you won’t find the chore too much of a bother, and appreciate the flexibility and customization that this virtual CSS file offers.

    Thanks for your help.
    I edited the CSS file following the instructions and it worked great! Tip for others: set at least a 3px size gap between categories, otherwise you won’t notice substantials differences.
    And, Stacy, I downloaded your plugin also. Looks good. I’m set for now, but I will definitely give it a try! ??
