Before I dig in and do what I think is a major customization, is there a sample design that produces a newspaper or tabloid type of look?

    Hi Craig, good question.
Sorry, so far no I haven’t made a proper newspaper design. The closest thing is the Mayer Magazine design.
You’ll probably at least want to customize that, in which case you should read about customizing designs.
And FYI part of the services offered for the business license is doing custom designs for you but it sounds like you’re more the type to dive into the code. If that’s the case, please let me know how it goes (I’m eager to help.)

    Michael:
At this point we don’t have the funding for design services and I have the abilities (I’m old, I have even done pdf encoding by hand many years ago, etc.). I just thought with the explosion of hyper-local news sites, Newspack, and the such that this would be a great match in that market. I am designing two Newspack sites and a hyper-local magazine. Each needs at least one, probably two pdf versions (different levels of accessibility). I have read all your documentation, thanks. I was looking at using DocRaptor API directly when I stumbled on your plugin.
If interested, I can share what I come up with. I did start playing with Mayer a bit and that’s why I was hoping that you have taken it further in the direction I need.

Hi again Craig, yes good point about Newspack integration being a good match. I haven’t managed to look into that at all really, but it makes a lot of sense.
Yes please share what you’re trying to produce (I’ll probably have suggestions on how I would accomplish it), any technical difficulties you have on the way, and what you end up producing. You might want to try to market your design/integration, in which case I’d also be happy to share your results on my blog and with my mailing list.

    Michael:
I have no desire nor intention to market what I come up with. You are more than welcome to share it with others if you like. Something along these lines is what I am aiming for. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I would rather concentrate on debug and tweaking than starting from scratch.
    Thanks for any input.

Hi Craig, thanks for the reference of what you’re going for. I’d like to create a design similar to what you linked to, but am not sure if I’m going to get around to it this week. I have made an issue to track your suggestion and my progress, but I’m sorry I can’t guarantee I’ll do it soon.
I’m inclined to mark this request as complete, but feel free to open up a new one with follow-up questions.

For anyone who finds this thread later on, the Haller Tabloid design was released in October 2022. Here’s the announcement post describing it: https://printmy.blog/introducing-the-haller-tabloid-newspaper-design-for-print-my-blog/
It’s included in the free plugin (although a subscription is required to make use of the features not supported by browsers when printing).
