• Hi Tobias!

For some reason, TablePress isn’t showing up in the Dashboard of a site I took over even when all other plugins are deactivated and Twenty Sixteen is the active theme. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled…

I’ve troubleshot this from every angle I can imagine but I can’t seem to pinpoint what is happening here.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    Sara

    Hi Sara,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

This usually is a small problem with the TablePress access capabilities. Resetting those capabilities should do the trick.
To do that, go to https://your-site.com/wp-admin/options.php in the browser. You should then see the list of “WordPress Options” with input fields to change them. (This is a powerful screen in WordPress, so be careful.)
Scroll down to the “tablepress_plugin_options” option. In that text field (be very careful), change the number after “plugin_options_db_version” to a 0 (it should be 32 right now, I think). Then save the changes.
That will reset some stuff inside TablePress internally and should also re-add the capabilities, so that you can then see the TablePress entry in the admin menu.

    Regards,
    Tobias

Tobias, this has been an interesting journey! This was finally resolved so I wanted to double back and tell you what I/we discovered…

This particular site is hosted on Go Daddy’s Managed WordPress hosting (client had it there when I took over her site). I tried to follow your instructions above and I could get to the correct field and could change the 32 to a 0 but when I went to save the change, I received various server errors.

    This is an example:
    Request Entity Too Large
    The requested resource
    /wp-admin/options.php
does not allow request data with POST requests, or the amount of data provided in the request exceeds the capacity limit.

I talked to GD support and they said that I would be unable to make this change on the Managed platform and suggested I move it over to Linux. Since this is a major site and is on Managed for a reason, I escalated this issue to a personal contact on the Go Daddy Pro development team.

I heard back from them last night. It turns out that something had caused some kind of caching of Tablepress within the database – when I went to the database I couldn’t even see any of the TP tables so that seems to make sense. They said that it wasn’t any of their caching, either front or back-end, so they think it is somewhere within the plugin itself.

In any case, they were able to clear the block and got it working for me. I’m going to keep an eye on it and just see if it happens again. Just thought I’d let you know where this ended up. ??

Thank you for the support and for maintaining such a useful plugin!

    Cheers!

    Hi Sara,

that sounds really strange. Yes, TablePress does have internal caching but that is not related at all to the showing in the admin area menu…

Good to hear that everything is working again!

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
