Table – Users Fill in Square

I am looking for a plugin (or an idea on how to begin coding it) for a simple grid that allows users to claim a space. This is actually for a game. Say it’s a 10 x 10 grid, users can go ahead and write their name on one square to claim that slot. Any idea how to begin doing something like this? TIA!
