Table Trouble

Hi,
Can anyone advise why my tables are aligning to the bottom of the page/post when the same code works fine outside of WordPress? I have tried a few different templates and all exhibit the problem so it looks like it is WP rather than the template.

I edit the post in html mode and simply use the same code as the previous html page. It looks like the table is being added after the content area but I’ve no idea why this is happening. If I paste the table in via the ‘Visual’ editor then the table displays at the top but I lose the cell borders so that’s no good for me.

Any advice would be very welcome as this is causing me to lose my mind ??
