I have been using table press for almost two years. Its output is exactly what I need. However, the UI of the editor is difficult because it only shows one text row per table row at a time. Many of my tables have multiple text rows per table row.

Is there any way to set the UI display to show the full height of each table row based on the number of test rows in each column. Similar to setting format cells in excel to Word Wrap

(Format Cells > General > Alignment > Text Control > Word Wrap.

This would display the UI when editing a table to display the row height to mimic the view displayed in the web site.

I have screen captures to illustrate my request but I cann find a way to attach them here.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

That sounds strange, normally, the text in these text fields should wrap to more than one line. Indeed, only the active row will however be showing more than one line of text.

You could try increasing the default size of the text field using the TablePress Extension from https://tablepress.org/extensions/input-field-size/

If that’s not yet it, please upload that screenshot to a service like https://imgur.com/ and post the link here.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately right about the time you replied, I managed to get Covid-19 and was out of commission for a while. I am fine now and trying to get back to my clients and support their domains.

I use table press on all my domains. I have CSS implemented for the front end. Is there any way to see the frontend CSS results on the backend while editing? The Preview works fine but this does not help while editing. I drag the table rows out while editing but this only works on a row by row basis and resets once I exit the table. What I am looking for is a WYSIWYG mode while editing mirroring my frontend CSS. Is that possible? If you can make that available, you would make life much easier for me.

I have read most of your documentation and do not see anything on that.

Hopefully, you are doing well and staying safe in these difficult times.

FYI I am a semi-retired photojournalist, Writer, Teacher, and UI developer. Note: I am not a programmer. I am a front-end person :-). The best way I can describe my IT skill level is I got a C in C 35 years ago. I do wonderful cut and past, Great wireframes, and frightening PHP. Hewlett Packard brought me to Germany to teach German writers how to write graphical technical documentation in English. My German is no better than my Coding. I live in the Stuttgart area.

Please stay safe and wear a mask. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Jim,

I’m really sorry to hear that you were so unlucky to catch Corona! It’s great to hear that you are better now! All the best for a full recovery without any long-term issues!

Unfortunately, there’s no possibility for such a live preview of the CSS. The main reason is that the theme CSS also always plays a role. Thus, the best preview is the frontend itself. I’ve seen people working on two monitor (or split screen on one monitor), with the “Custom CSS” open on the left and the frontend page on the right, and then doing frequent saves and refreshes in the other tab.
As for the row size, that mentioned Extension should then be what you are looking for. You can use it to keep the input fields large, so that you don’t have to drag them larger every time.

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

Thank you for your reply. Is the extension the one your referred to in your email several months ago?

I was just reviewing all of your extensions. Tell me, is there any reason for not downloading all of the extensions.

And, yes, Tobias. I will donate to your work. After 40 years in this industry, especially recently I have decided that all of my donations are based on support.

You have given me the support I have been looking for and that deserves supporting you.

Thank you again, I look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Jim,

thanks for the donation, I really appreciate it!

Regarding the Extensions: I meant the one from https://tablepress.org/extensions/input-field-size/ which you can use to set bigger default input fields.

And no, there’s no real reason to not download all Extensions, I guess ?? Except maybe for not having a need for all those features.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!
