If you are not sure about the html or php code in the helper sample you will need to get the help of a programmer to get the results you need.

However, if you wish to get your hand dirty and start to understand how code works, I suggest you follow this tutorial which helps you understand how you can setup your WordPress in ‘debug’ mode and print messages to the debug log. This way you can print the values to variables to the debug log and figure out what the code is doing.
