Since March 11 reports could not be created anymore. The error message when I try to create them manually is: SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data

On Matomo Dashboard no reports are displayed at all. Matomo version in use is 5.2.2.

Hi @pubfut, can you explain what you mean by creating reports manually? Are you using the CustomReports plugin, or do you mean when you add a pre-existing report to the dashboard for display?

Can you tell me if it is just the dashboard in Matomo Analytics > Reporting that doesn’t display? Do reports in other screens display, eg, Matomo Analytics > Reporting > Visitors > Overview?

Thank you for your fast reply! Here is what I do:

    • Go to menu item Matomo/Diagnose
    • Klick Tab “Troubleshooting”
    • Click Button “Archive reports”

Then I get to a page with code an the error message “SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data” on top.

However, having repeated these steps now I notice that the data is displayed again in the Dashboard and also at Matomo Analytics > Reporting > Visitors > Overview. It seems that the issue has gone away. Resolving.

@pubfut I see, the “SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data” error is an ignorable error that occurs on some hosting providers. For some hosting providers, WordPress doesn’t return the archiving result in the right format for some reason, and Matomo for WordPress can’t tell if manual archiving succeeded or not. As long as reports display, though, everything should be fine.
